Zhujiajiao
Located by the Dianshan Lake in a suburb of Shanghai city, Zhujiajiao is an ancient water town, with a history of more than 1700 years. It is only 30 km away from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport. Covering an area of 47 square kilometers. It’s a typical place of abundance in the region south of the Yangtze River and a historical and cultural town that has been most completely preserved in Shanghai.
Endowed with name " Venice of Shanghai ", the little town is simple and tranquil, refined and elegant. Walking along the zigzag flagging or wondering among the narrow streets and lanes flanked with shops and stores, tourists feel as if they were in a simple but fresh wash painting: Unique old bridges across bubbling streams, small rivers shaded by willow trees, and residence of the Ming and Qing styles.
Bridges in the town are distinctive and old, built during Ming and Qing Dynasties. There are 36 delicate bridges span in different shapes and styles, from wooden to stone to marble. The Fangsheng Bridge(Setting-fish-free Bridge), constructed in 1571 in the Ming Dynasty, is the longest, largest and tallest joint five-arch stone bridge in Shanghai. It is 70.8 meters in length and 5.8 meters in width. Exquisite in structure and beautiful in shape, it is the first of the ten scenic spots of Zhujiajiao. Lang Bridge (Veranda Bridge), is the only wooden bridge and the most featured span in this town.
In the town, there is an one kilometer long ancient street called North Street filled with representative ancient buildings and Imposing gardens as well as ancient dwellings built during the Ming and Qing, attracting great numbers of domestic and foreign tourists.
