Tiger Hill
Located at the northwest suburbs of Suzhou city, also named "Surging Sea Hill". Entitled as "the most famous place in Wuzhong" Tiger Hill is 36 meters high, 630 meter in perimeter with a total area of 20 hectare. Formed about 150,000,000 years ago, Tiger Hill's history can be traced back to 2500 years ago, the same time with the ancient Suzhou city. Although the hill is relatively small it has rich scenic spots and historical sites.
The Tomb of King He Lu: the burial place of the founding father of Suzhou, King He Lu in the Spring and Autumn Period (770 B.C-476 B.C), who died during the war fought against the Yue in 496 B.C. It was said that a white tiger occasionally appeared to guard the tomb. From that time on it has been known as Tiger Hill.
Tiger Hill Pagoda: Also named Yunyan Temple Pagoda, the pagoda was first built in the Sui dynasty (581-618) and rebuilt in 961 AD in the Northern Song dynasty. As the oldest pagoda in the vicinity of Suzhou stands on the hill's summit it has come to be a symbol of the city and has the distinction of being China's Leaning Tower. Built on an octagonal base, it’s 48 meters high with 7 stories and for the past four hundred years has leant 359' to the northwest.
Sword Testing Stone: a huge stone with a deep and long crack running through it said to be cracked by He Lu, who tested all his swords on the stone. According to legend, the king was buried with 3,000 swords; 1,000 builders were killed after building the tomb so that the secret of the swords would not be revealed. So the stone is the only evidence of the existence of these swords.
