Hiking on the Great Wall
The most awesome structure ever devised by man, the Great Wall of China is actually made up of many sections of defensive walls built intermittently by a succession of rulers of different kingdoms and dynasties, even earlier before Qin Dynasty (221 ¨C 207 BC). It lies across the northern borders of China like some great sleeping dragon, stretching and sunning itself on the peaks and ridges of some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in the world, an astonishing 6,000 kilometres long. It is one of the few man-made structures that can be seen from outer space. In Beijing area, the total length of the Great Wall is about 640 kilometres, protecting the capital from three sides (east, west and north). Hiking on the Great Wall will be a fascinating experience in one¡¯s lifetime, and also the visit to the World Historical Heritages in Beijing ¨C the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven and etc.
Day 1 Arrive Beijing
Arrive in Beijing. Met and transferred to hotel for a 2 nights stay. Rest of the day at leisure to relax and acclimatize.
Day 2 Beijing City Tour (B/L)
Morning visit to the Forbidden City, the seat of supreme power for the emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the largest ancient architectural structure in China today. Afternoon visit to the Tiananmen Square, the largest public square in the world, and the Temple of Heaven. Here the Ming and Qing emperors ended their ritual procession to worship and pray for good harvest. The overall layout, with its component buildings, symbolizing the relationship between earth and heaven, which stands at the heart of Chinese cosmogony, and also the special role played by the emperors within that relationship.
Day 3 Jinshanling to Simatai (B/L/D)
Drive north to the Jinshanling part of the Great Wall, about 135 km from Beijing city. The hike is from Jinshanling to Simatai. The hiking distance is 12 km and passing by 27 bacon towers. Overnight stay at the 2-star Simatai Hotel, locates at the feet of the Great Wall.
Day 4 Mutianyu (B/L/D)
In the morning, drive to the Mutianyu part of the Great Wall, taking about 1.5 hours. Ascend the Wall with climbing 1000 steps. The section is regarded as the most beautiful one in Beijing. After the hiking,
transferred to the hotel with 2 hours driving. Overnight stay at the 4-star Juyongguan Great Wall Hotel, its buildings are with the traditional Chinese courtyard style, within 2 minutes walking distance from Juyongguan Pass.
Day 5 Ruined Section of Badaling(B/L)
Watch the sunrise on the Juyongguan Pass, then drive to the Ruined Section of the Badaling part of the Great Wall. Hiking westwards from the entrance to Shixiaguan. It will last for 3 hours. Drive back to Juyongguan Pass, hike on the Great Wall at Juyongguan Pass for about 2 hours. In the late afternoon back to Beijing and transferred to hotel for a 2 nights stay.
Day 6 Beijing (B/L)
Morning visit to the Summer Palace, which is a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design. In the afternoon explore the ancient alleyways of old Beijing by rickshaw.
Day 7 Huangyaguan (B/L/D)
Drive northeast to the Huangyaguan part of the Great Wall, locates at Ji County, Tianjin. The section is well known as one of the most important passes along the Great Wall. After lunch, hiking from Taipingzhai to Huangyaguan. It will last for 2.5 hours. Overnight stay at the basic Huangyaguan Hotel.
Day 8 Great Wall under water at the Panjiakou Reservoir (B/L/D)
Depart from the Huangyaguan to the Panjiakou Reservoir. Stay on the coach for 3 hours, enjoying the countryside view outside the window. Upon arrival of the Panjiakou Reservoir, take 2 hours ferryboat to see the Great Wall under water. Having lunch in a local restaurant in Qianxi Village. Then drive to the Qingshaguan part of the Great Wall. Overnight stay at the lovely Qingshanguan Hotel.
Day 9 Qingshanguan to Beijing (B/L)
In the morning, hike on the Qingshanguan part of the Great Wall, a section far away from the noises and crowds of tourists. This morning allows you time to explore this part of the wall ¨C quiet and very imposing (CTI specialty). After lunch drive back to Beijing on the expressway for 4 hours ride and transferred to hotel for a 2 nights stay.
Day 10 Beijing (B)
Day at leisure or explore the city on your own.
Day 11 Depart Beijing (B)
Transfer to airport for the flight departing Beijing and the impressing Great Wall Hiking tour will end today.

Wall encircled the Mountain Resort in Chengde some 200 kilometres northeast of Beijing and the only impact Ming Dynasty City Wall (about 14 kilometres long) in Xi¡¯an about 2 hour flight from Beijing.
